Joe Dowding's 1986 C10 Page

November 10, 2002
My next big project. This is a 1986 C10 I bought in the summer of 2001. I bought it initially to be a second truck since I sold off a 93 Mustang. I figured my 84 might need to be worked on for longer than a day and I would need a second vehicle. The first time I really needed this one, the tranny grenaded when I was about 20 miles from home. Thanks Murphy.

This is a 76 C10 I bought for $200 just for the frame. My plan was to swap over the cab, engine and tranny from the truck above onto this frame to make a C10 Shortbed. The body on this truck was really bad, worse than the picture shows. I used my sawzall to get rid of most of this truck in one weekend. I had the frame sandblasted and coated in PPG DP90 epoxy primer. I have since decided to use a different cab than the one from my 86 and found a nice rust free cab in Washington. I need to rebuild the front suspension on the frame and change the rear spring hangers and shackles to give me a 2" front and 4" rear drop. Then I will put my new cab on my prepped frame. The plan is then to swap the newly rebuilt 350 V8 and 700R4 tranny from the white 86 onto the 76 frame. The 76 has a 3.73 geared 12 bolt already so I'll use that rear axle. I have a 90 Suburban front clip, brand new Chevy grille and a Goodmark cowl induction hood to go with this too. I also picked up a sweet fleetside shortbox for this project. Stay tuned here to watch this project unfold.
