1978-1981 GMC Street Coupe

The Street Coupe was not really a special edition. The street coupe was a dressup option (RPO Z77) added to the GMC line in 1978. Because this was an option, there are probably no two street coupe pickups the same, depending on what other options were ordered by the dealers or the person who special ordered one of these trucks.

The Street Coupe option was fairly consistent for all the years it was offered. The Street Coupe package was offered on short bed fenderside (stepside) and wideside (fleetside) trucks in 2wd or 4x4. It consisted of an exterior package consisting of two tone paint separated by tape stripes with the street coupe logo, bumpers painted body color with impact strips, black grille with chrome (for 78 and 79, unique chrome grille for 1980) hood ornament, and required the Sierra Grande trim level. On the interior was standard Sierra Grande fare with carpeting.

The street coupe was documented in the normal pickup and full line dealer brochures, I have not found a separate brochure just for these models.

Color schemes for street coupes:
1978 Blue or Red (1978 models were not two tone, and had much larger tape stripes)
1979 Silver/Black or Red/Burgundy
1980 Silver/Black or White/Burgundy
1981 Blue/White or White/Burgundy and three others

Note: the Street Coupe is shown in the 1981 GMC brochure. This makes this one of very few special 1981-1987 trucks as they seem to be much more standardized with fewer special options. If you have one of these, or have seen one email me.
