MegaSquirt History

January 15, 2004 - I saw the preview for Megasquirt in the back of Car Craft magazine and went looking. I found the main Megasquirt site and spent all of my spare time reading about Megasquirt for a week or so.

January 23, 2004 - I ordered my MS partial kit, stimulator PCB (test board) and parts from digikey for both.

January 30, 2004 - Parts arrived

February 2004 - I assembled my stimulator, and then my MS, they both worked flawlessly by paying close attention to the assembly instructions on the Megasquirt page.

March 2004 - I ordered and received parts for my Megaview and assembled it with a case. It too worked with no problems.

July 2004 - I continued to gather parts for this project including my fuel sender, electrical connectors for the injectors and sensors, the O2 sensor etc. Spreading out the purchases let me buy things as I went. I'll probably faint when I start adding up receipts...

September 2004 - After working on other projects all summer, I got back to my MegaSquirt project. I splurged and bought a ramjet intake kit from GM Performance Parts (which cost more than the last brand new engine I bought...)

October 2004 - I started my install on my 84 K10. Over a couple weeks, I installed a serpentine belt drive, electric fans plus a new harmonic balancer that the truck needed for a while. I swapped the intake and started the wiring.

November 2004 - I continued to work on the project a little at a time. Wiring the injectors to the relay board, sensors and starting in on my fuel system.

December 6, 2004 - I finished up the high pressure fuel system and tested it. It was like a gas sprinkler. I found out AN flares on the factory steel line just wasn't going to work, so I replaced it with aluminum. No more leaks.

December 8, 2004 - I tried to install my heater hoses, but had to play the fitting game to get a 90 degree adapter for the front of the intake manifold along with the 1/2" pipe to 5/8" hose fitting. The fitting game always involves going to every place in town that might possibly have the fitting I need. After only three auto parts stores and four hardware stores, I found the machined brass 1/2" pipe elbow I needed. If I were king, I would demand auto parts stores that sold intake manifolds would have to stock the hardware you need to install them... Even after I found the right fitting, I had to remove my water pump (again) to be able to swing the fitting enough to screw it in the front of the intake. I had to use the front opening so the heater hose wouldn't interfere with the throttle linkage. I also removed my drivers side header for O2 sensor installation. Of course next I had to go back to the hardware store to get a 3/4" drill bit for that project...
